Who is this course for?(Target Audience)This course is for anyone aged 19 or over who are interested in working or volunteering with adults in the health and social care sector.   Must be aged 19+ and have lived in the UK/EU for a minimum of three years.   For full funding, must be aged 19+, receive any state benefit payment (evidence required), unemployed or working less than 16 hours and seeking employment.
What will I study?(Key modules or content)This course is suitable for those wishing for a career change, to refresh previous training/experience or to regain employment after a career break.   This level 1 develops basic knowledge of the adult social care sector. It covers the type of job roles and services within it, the role of communication and the importance of valuing the individual being cared for.   The knowledge gained will be working towards an individual’s specific job role, preparing them for further training and to seek employment for the role they desire.
How will learners be assessed?A range of assessment methods will be used such as group work, discussions and written answers.

What will I study?(Key modules or content)Level 1 The level 1 study programme contains both level 1s including; Level 1 Award in an Introduction to Early Years Settings This qualification develops a basic knowledge of childcare in early years settings. It covers working with children up to the age of 5 years old. The units include subjects such as the value of play, roles and responsibilities of carers and volunteers and the importance of developing links in the local community.   andLevel 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care This qualification develops a basic knowledge of the adult social care sector. It covers the type of job roles and services within it, the role of communication and the importance of valuing the individuals being cared for.   Tutorials/Support/Enrichment Work experience, team building, community involvement and an understanding of all roles within the sector including administration roles   Level 2Core QualificationLevel 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s environments including early years and social care.  It covers a wide range of areas including safeguarding, health and safety, supporting speech and language, child development. OrLevel 2 Diploma in Care This qualification will support learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in health and adult care environments.  It covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures.   AdditionalityLevel 2 Award in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities This qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills around supporting individuals with learning disabilities. It is aimed at learners who support individuals with learning disabilities as part of their job role. Tutorials/Support/Enrichment Work experience, team building, community involvement and an understanding of all roles within the sector including administration roles
How will learners be assessed?Level 1 A range of assessment methods will be used such as group work, discussions and written answers. Level 2 Assessment will be portfolio based with skills being assessed within a practical placement of your choice.
What are the entry requirementsMust be 16-19 years old. Learners require a functional skill level 2 or equivalent to enrol on a level 2 Study programme. We can signpost to partner providers if this is required.
Requirements of the course(e.g personal protective equipment, tools, materials)For Level 2, learners will need to undergo a DBS check. This qualification is a mixture of knowledge and skills, learners need to undertake 150 hours of practical placement.
Progression and CareersProgression can be further education or employment. Upon completion learners can enter either the adult care, health or childcare workforces, dependent on which qualification they chose. Who is this course for?(Target Audience)This course is suitable for those wishing for a career change, to refresh previous training and experience or to regain employment after a career break. It is also suitable for parents and careers of individuals with Dementia. Must be aged 19+ and have lived in the UK/EU for a minimum of three years.   For full funding, must be aged 19+, receive any state benefit payment (evidence required), unemployed or working less than 16 hours and seeking employment.
What will I study?(Key modules or content)This is a one-day course that explores Dementia by exploring the main characteristics, types and causes of Dementia and strategies to support children/adults with this condition.   You will also examine how this impacts over all of the family and support available within South Tyneside.
How will learners be assessed?Learners will participate in discussions and answer a multiple choice assessment.
What are the entry requirementsThis course is for anyone aged over 19 years.

The King’s Trust has a partnership with the Department of Health & Social Care to support young people aged 16-30 into starting and sustaining careers in the care sector.

Our free support can run from our Newcastle centre or can be delivered online to support young people with confidence, job awareness, employability skills, application writing and interview preparation.  We also provide ongoing support with the pre-employment onboarding process, financial barriers and settling into a new job.
