Types of roles in Adult Social Care

Direct care roles:
| Activities Worker | Organizes social activities, trips, and entertainment for individuals needing care and support. Supports participation in various activities. |
| Care Worker | Provides support with day-to-day living, including personal care, mobility, meal times, and social activities. |
| Personal Assistant | Assists individuals in living independently, typically in their own home or community. |
| Rehabilitation Worker | Aids individuals in living independently after illness or accident. Assists with housing, finance, social activities, and life skills. |
| Shared Lives Carer | Opens home to include someone needing care and support, either living together or as a daytime visitor. |
| Advocacy Worker | Supports vulnerable individuals to have their voice heard and ensures their best interests are considered in decision-making. |
Regulated Professional roles:
| Social Worker | Offers counseling and advocacy, intervening in safeguarding. |
| Occupational Therapist | Aids people with disabilities in daily activities and rehabilitation. |
| Registered Nurse | Performs clinical tasks for people in nursing homes or the community. |
| Nursing Associate | Works to prevent ill health in collaboration with individuals, families, and partners. |
| Complementary Therapist | Provides complementary therapies for emotional distress or psychological issues. |
| Counsellor | Offers emotional support to overcome challenges like bereavement or addiction. |
Ancillary roles:
| Cook/ Kitchen Assistant | Prepares and serves meals in nursing homes or day care centers. |
| Housekeeper/ Domestic | Ensures a safe, tidy, and clean environment in residential homes. |
| Driver/ Transport Manager | Provides transport for people needing care, such as to day centers or appointments. |
| Maintenance | Undertakes practical maintenance jobs in residential homes or sheltered housing. |
Management roles:
| Team Leader/ Supervisor | Leads or supervises care teams to ensure high-quality support. |
| Manager | Manages day-to-day operations, standards, budgets, and contracts. |
| Deputy Manager/ Team Manager | Leads and manages care teams, supporting overall service management. |
| Specialist Coordinator | Specializes in areas like dementia or end-of-life care, responsible for training and policies. |
Other Social Care roles:
| Housing Support Officer | Provides housing-related support to help individuals maintain independence. |
| Volunteer Coordinator | Manages and coordinates volunteers across the organization. |
| Social Care Prescriber | Connects people with non-medical community support to improve well-being. |
| Welfare Rights Officer | Advises on legislation matters related to benefits and support. |
| Employment Advisor | Assists individuals in finding and maintaining employment. |
| Administrator | Performs administrative tasks to support the organization. |
| Finance Officer | Manages organizational finances. |
