He has complex physical needs, including dystonia, hypotonia, and reduced mobility. They require sling hoisting for all transfers, wear a protective helmet when out of their wheelchair, and are fully dependent for personal care. Sensory activities, gentle interaction, and a calm, reassuring presence are particularly enjoyed. He is non‑verbal and communicate through facial expressions, eye gaze, body language, gestures, and vocalisations. A familiar adult is required to interpret these subtle communication cues and respond appropriately. He has global developmental delay and significant learning disabilities and relies fully on adults to meet his needs.

The Personal Assistant will provide 1:1 support always, ensuring his safety, comfort, and wellbeing. Duties will include support with personal care, feeding, hydration, moving and handling, positioning, and daily routines.

You will be responsible for monitoring seizure activity and responding in line with agreed care and medical plans. Emotional reassurance is especially important during post‑seizure periods. The role also involves supporting communication by observing and responding to non‑verbal cues, as well as engaging the child in sensory‑based and play activities at an appropriate pace.

You will work closely with the family and follow established routines, care plans, and guidance to provide consistent, person‑centred support.

We are looking for someone who is:

• Driver essential – could use wheelchair accessible vehicle but would have to be over 30 for insurance purposes.

They can become overwhelmed in busy or unfamiliar environments and often use movement or stimming to self‑regulate. Spatial awareness is limited, and they may bump into others without noticing. Organisation is a challenge, and they need reminders to manage belongings and stay on task. Sleep can be inconsistent, leading to tiredness and reduced engagement.

Emotional regulation is still developing, and reactions can be very strong, sometimes escalating to verbal or physical aggression when overwhelmed. They may interpret small issues as significant, act impulsively, or involve themselves in situations that don’t concern them. Concentration is difficult when the topic isn’t of interest and writing or literacy tasks can lead to frustration or avoidance. They also frequently express tiredness and ask about going home, which affects motivation.

This young person is beginning to ask thoughtful questions about Autism and is starting to recognise what makes them unique. With the right support, encouragement and understanding, they continue to make progress across all areas of school life.

They are bright, engaging and memorable — thriving when adults believe in them, connect with them and help them navigate the world in a way that feels safe, predictable and manageable.

A thoughtful, creative young person (13-year-old) who loves computer games, Lego, drawing, reading and bouncing on the trampoline. He thrives with patient communication, gentle encouragement and a calm environment. He can become tired due to motor difficulties and benefits from predictable routines and understanding around sensory sensitivities and food preferences. When he feels comfortable, he’s engaging, funny and enjoys sharing his interests.

A lively, affectionate child (6-year-old) who loves movement, rolling and spinning objects, balls, rocking and simple turn‑taking games. He communicates through gestures, sounds and eye contact, and he forms lovely bonds with familiar adults. He needs close supervision as he moves quickly, climbs and explores with his mouth. He benefits from sensory activities, gentle reassurance during transitions and full support with daily routines. With the right approach, he is joyful, giggly and very affectionate.

A sweet, gentle child (4-year-old) who communicates mainly through gestures and Makaton. He enjoys spinning toys, cars, rubber ducks and quiet, predictable play. He can become upset if his toys are moved or if routines change suddenly, so a calm, steady presence helps him feel secure. He needs support with dressing, toileting and expressing his needs, and he responds beautifully to adults who take their time and follow his lead.

Each child has their own set of needs, and having two PAs ensures they can receive the individual attention, safety supervision and emotional support they deserve. It also allows activities to be tailored to each child’s interests and abilities, creating a calmer, more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

He’s 7 years old and has a rare condition called 22q Chromosome Deletion (DiGeorge Syndrome), along with other health needs. He’s nonverbal, but communicates beautifully through gestures, pointing, hand-leading, and some Makaton. He’s curious, playful, and loves noisy toys, Mr Tumble, Metro trains, car rides, soft play, and going out for tea. (Just don’t offer him cucumber or messy play — he’s not a fan!)

Support Needs:

• Help with personal care (he wears nappies and isn’t toilet aware)
• Support with mobility (uses a buggy, crawls, and sometimes runs on tiptoes)
• Safety awareness (he has no road sense and may wander off)
• Someone who can set gentle but firm boundaries and use distraction when needed

• Ideally a female, but Gran is open to anyone who’s the right fit
• Someone kind, patient, and confident around children with additional needs
